FootGaffer

About FootGaffer

A free set of tools for Fantasy Premier League managers.

FootGaffer takes everything the official game publishes — prices, ownership, fixtures, form, injuries, live scores — and turns it into the handful of decisions you actually have to make each week. Who to captain. Which transfer is worth it. Whether this is the week for the wildcard.

It is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and it does not want your password. Put in your team ID and it remembers it on your own device.

Every recommendation shows its reasoning. The point is not that you do as you are told — it is that you can see the argument, decide it has missed something, and overrule it.

How it works

Nothing is guessed by an AI

Every projection, captaincy pick and transfer suggestion is arithmetic — minutes, fixtures, underlying numbers and the rules of the game. The same inputs always produce the same answer, and the reasoning is printed next to the recommendation so you can disagree with it on the specifics.

The rules are read from the live game

Squad size, budget, the three-per-club limit and how many free transfers you can bank are read from Fantasy Premier League itself rather than written into the code. When the game changes them, this changes with it.

No account, no password, no email

Your FPL team ID is saved on your own device. There is nothing to sign up for and nothing to log into, because there is no account to break into.

The badges and avatars are drawn here

Club crests are trademarks and player photographs are copyright, both licensed to the Premier League for use in their own game. So FootGaffer does not use them. The coloured badges and initials you see are drawn by the site itself, from nothing but the club codes and player names in the data. No image is ever loaded from a league or club website.

It says when it does not know

A blank gameweek, a player with no minutes yet, a sample of a few hundred managers rather than all of them — each is labelled. A number with nothing behind it is worse than no number, so where the evidence is thin the page says so.

What is in it

16 sections, all of them free and none of them behind a sign-up.

  • Dashboard

Your team and the state of the game, in one place.

    • Put your FPL team ID in once and the dashboard shows your rank, your points, who to captain and whether a transfer is worth making.
    • A countdown to the next deadline, in your own timezone rather than the server’s.
    • The most-owned players right now.
    • Every injury and availability flag in one list, so a knock to one of your players does not go unnoticed.
  • My Team

Your actual squad, with a captain pick and transfer suggestions you can argue with.

    • Enter your FPL team ID once and it is remembered on your device. There is no account and no password.
    • A captaincy recommendation with the reasoning spelled out, plus a vice-captain from a different club.
    • Transfer suggestions that respect your bank, your sale values and the three-per-club limit — and that refuse to recommend a −4 hit unless the projected gain covers it.
    • Your free transfers worked out by replaying your transfer history, including wildcard and free hit weeks.
    • Squad value, bank and overall rank plotted week by week.
  • Mini leagues

Your mini league table, and everything that happened in it this gameweek.

    • Your leagues appear automatically from your team ID — nothing to look up or paste in.
    • The table with rank movement, the league average, the highest score of the week and the biggest riser.
    • Pick any gameweek that has been played and see the top three scores, with a toggle to exclude anyone who used a chip.
    • A gameweek report: who played which chip, who captained what, every transfer made, and who left the most on their bench.
    • A chip tracker showing who has already burned a wildcard — usually the most useful thing on the page.
    • You only ever see leagues your own team is in.
  • Live scores

Your points as the matches happen, including bonus before it is confirmed.

    • Provisional bonus points worked out from the BPS standings, using the real tie rules.
    • Once the game confirms bonus, the confirmed figure replaces the estimate — it is never added on top.
    • The captain’s double and the bench are handled the way the game handles them.
    • Automatic substitutions are not simulated. They are only settled at the end of a gameweek, and a wrong guess is worse than none.
  • Player search

Every player in the game, filterable and sortable however you like.

    • Search and filter by club, position, price and availability, with no waiting between keystrokes.
    • Sort by projected points, form, value for money, ownership or any underlying stat.
    • Includes injured and unavailable players, so you can deliberately look for them.
  • Player profiles

One player in full — form, fixtures, underlying numbers and history.

    • A projection for the coming weeks with the reasoning behind it.
    • Expected goals and assists, bonus points, defensive contributions.
    • Every gameweek this season, and previous seasons with start and end prices.
    • Ownership and price plotted over time, and any set-piece duty.
  • Compare players

Two to four players side by side, with the better number highlighted on every row.

    • Direction is handled properly: cheaper is better, and an easier run of fixtures is a lower number.
    • Useful for settling the transfer you have been going back and forth on.
  • Build an XI

Plan a squad from scratch against the real budget and squad rules.

    • Live validation of budget, squad size, position counts and the three-per-club limit.
    • The best legal starting XI from whatever you have picked, with a suggested captain.
    • Your draft is kept on your device, so an accidental refresh does not lose fifteen decisions.
  • Fixture difficulty

Who has the kindest run of games over the next three, five or eight gameweeks.

    • Difficulty is recalculated from how clubs are actually performing, not fixed before a ball was kicked.
    • Early in the season the official pre-season ratings carry it, and their influence fades as real results accumulate.
    • Home and away are rated separately, because they are genuinely different.
  • Price changes

Who is about to rise or fall tonight.

    • The game’s own published progress towards a change, shown alongside our own estimate.
    • Transfer momentum measured against a player’s owner base, since the threshold scales with ownership.
    • Past predictions are kept and scored against what actually happened, so the accuracy figure is a record rather than a claim.
  • Ownership

What everyone owns, what the top managers own, and where those two disagree.

    • Ownership among a sample of top-10k managers, with the sample size always shown.
    • Effective ownership, which counts captaincy — the number that decides whether a player actually costs you rank.
    • Differentials: players the best managers back more than the field does.
  • Chip strategy

When to play your wildcard, bench boost, triple captain and free hit.

    • Candidate gameweeks scored for each chip, with the reasoning shown.
    • Double and blank gameweeks flagged as soon as the fixture list reveals them.
  • Set pieces

Who takes the penalties, corners and free kicks at all twenty clubs.

    • Each club’s listed order, not just the first choice.
    • The second in the queue is highlighted when the first choice is injured or suspended — usually the most useful thing on the page.
    • Clubs with nobody listed say so explicitly, rather than looking like nobody takes them.
  • News

Football headlines filtered down to the players you actually own.

    • Headlines from the BBC, the Guardian and Sky Sports.
    • Stories are matched to real players, cautiously — a story only appears under your squad when the match is unambiguous.
    • If one source is unavailable the other two still show, and the missing one is named.
  • Pros & Celebrities

How the pros and well-known names are getting on, and what they picked.

    • FPL creators, pundits and public figures who have published their own team ID.
    • Total points, gameweek score, overall rank and how far they have moved.
    • Teams appear only once a gameweek deadline has passed, so the page cannot be used to copy somebody before it locks.
    • Everyone is listed with a link to where they published their ID, so you can check it rather than take it on trust.
  • One pro or celebrity

One well-known player in full — their team, their season, their transfers.

    • The exact XI they played, their captain and any chip they used.
    • Points and rank plotted week by week.
    • The transfers they made, up to the last gameweek that has locked.

Also worth knowing

Alerts

Optional browser notifications for deadline reminders, price changes to players you own, and injury news. Off unless you turn them on, and switched off again from the same place.

Installs like an app

Add FootGaffer to your home screen from your browser and it opens full screen, with its own icon. There is nothing to download from an app store.

Keeps working when Fantasy Premier League is busy

Around a deadline the official game is under heavy load. If it stops answering, FootGaffer shows the most recent figures it has and tells you they are not live, rather than showing an error page or, worse, a stale number pretending to be current.

What it deliberately does not do

Each of these is missing on purpose, not unfinished.

Mini-league tables
Fantasy Premier League already does this well, and it needs your login to do it.
Automatic substitutions during a live gameweek
They are only settled once every match has finished. Showing a guess would mean showing you a score that later turns out to be wrong.
Making transfers for you
That would need your Fantasy Premier League password. FootGaffer never asks for it and could not use it.
Betting odds or tips
This is a tool for a free fantasy game, and it stays that way.

Where the data comes from

Fantasy Premier League
The data — players, prices, fixtures, ownership, live scores and the rules of the game. No images.
BBC Sport
Football headlines.
The Guardian
Football headlines.
Sky Sports
Football headlines.

Headlines link straight back to the publisher. FootGaffer shows a title and a sentence, never the article.
Only data is taken from these sources, never artwork. Club crests and player photographs belong to the clubs and the Premier League, so the badges and avatars on this site are drawn here from club codes and player names instead.

How much to trust it

Projections are estimates. Football is not predictable, and anyone who tells you their model is would be selling you something.

Where FootGaffer can be checked, it is: price predictions are recorded before the fact and scored against what actually happened, so the accuracy figure on that page is a track record rather than a boast.

Squad rules, prices and deadlines are read from Fantasy Premier League, but there can be a few minutes between something changing there and appearing here. Before you confirm a transfer or a chip, check it in the official game. That is the one that counts.
